We won a Yngling race today at US Sailing’s 2008 Rolex Olympic Classes Regatta on Biscayne Bay but we had some tough breaks in two other races in light, difficult and shifty conditions, to end the day with an 18-1-20 record. Our combined score kept us in 8th place overall with one more day of fleet racing remaining to qualify the top ten boats for the double-points Medal Race on Saturday.

The overall lead changed again today, as it has on all four previous days. Mandy Mulder and her Dutch crew claimed the best score with a 7-2-4 performance that put them in front by 11 overall points, ahead of yesterday’s leader, Ekaterina Skudina from Russia.

We came out today determined to make things click and we were successful at least once, with an awesome race. Our boat speed was good all day but like many of the crews around us, it was difficult getting it right all the time in a southeasterly breeze that defied analysis. We’re working on a new communications structure on board and it still needs some work.
