Second on the Rolex Keelboat Opening Day PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Shoreacres, Texas
November 15, 2007

We are in second place after three races on the opening day of US Sailing’s Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship. Our finishes today were 2-16-3 and they would have been better if we hadn’t been part of a group of boats called over early in the second race of the day.

There are 39 J/22s racing in this international field and Cory Sertl from Rochester, NY, showed how it should be done today with 5-7-1 finishes. She’s a two-time winner of this event, as a crew in 1985 and as a skipper in 2001.

Weather conditions were ideal for the opening of this four-day regatta, with a breeze around 15 knots when we began racing, that faded to a shifty eight to 12 knots as the afternoon wore on.

We settled in quickly here after a day travelling back from Rio de Janeiro and we’re looking forward to three more days of close competition. You can find full Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Results here.
