Qingdao, China
June 22, 2008

We’ve been back in Qingdao now for nearly two weeks, testing and training hard on the local waters and we’re nearly half way through a month-long stay in the 2008 sailing Olympic city, ahead of the Games in August. The memories are still fresh of the wonderful fundraisers hosted by Debbie and Sally’s supporters, right before we flew to China. The first was a memorable golf outing in Manorville, NY at the Rock Hill Golf and Country Club on Friday, June 6.

Heading out to play

It was a big day for 80 avid golfers and now extremely enthusiastic Team 7 fans. Rain threatened early but this group wasn’t about to let anything stop them. This was apparent as all 40 Team 7 and USA-decorated carts left the car park zooming to fill the Rock Hill 18-hole course with several near crashes! We were lucky because the rain ceased as the golfers headed out for the day.

The day was a great hit. All details were covered. The golf carts were decorated with Olympic torches, donated Team 7 Golf towels, Vitamin Water (a Team 7 sponsor) and several other goodies. There was a drink delivery cart cruising around the course and there were prizes for everything from longest drive, lowest scores male and female and much more. The competition around the course was high . . . that is until we started receiving Bloody Mary drink orders from the 7th hole!

The occasion capped off with a dinner, an exciting Olympic presentation by Debbie followed up with "Go USA" chants from the crowd, raffles of decorated gift baskets and the prize ceremonies for the day’s event. What a day. We sure had fun!

Team 7 would like to thank the organizers: Kathy O'Reilly, Mike and Megan Capozzi, Sue and Ben Mandel, and Kathy and Mike Capozzi. This group compiled the long list of supporters that we would also like to thank for sponsoring the day. The top level sponsors included Gaf Roofing and Building Products, Tamko Roofing and Building Products, R.W. Behan Contracting, Tuscan dairy, the Reid Family, and Raymond Fell. A special thank you also to Paul Krause, Geoghan Family, Grace LaFemina, Val and Ed Miliken.

I can’t wait to tell you about the next night. We had an eventful trip from New York to Wisconsin and met the storm of the century in Pewaukee!! More to come.

Please spread the word with your friends and fellow sailors to Join the Team to receive our regular updates and, if they wish, to make a donation. Our Join the Team page uses the secure Kintera support software which allows users to sign up for updates, make donations, and easily invite friends and fellow yacht club members to become involved. There is a live display showing a running total of all donations. You can even start your own fundraising team. The current top team is Bee Anderson’s Old Grands. Please check it out.
