Palma de Mallorca, Spain
March 17, 2008

Day two of the 39th Trofeo S.A. R. Princesa Sofia Regatta here in Palma produced a nice sea breeze. We felt far more comfortable in the boat than yesterday and fully back in our rythym. We proved it with two second place finishes and moved into third overall.

This regatta is the Olympic selection trials for the Russian Yngling crews, amongst other teams, and their intensity is very obvious. We were ready to take on the day, and did. We were always ready to attack and were able to play the game and gain on most boats except the top-ranked Russian entry skippered by Ekaterina Skudina.

Ekaterina kept her game plan real simple, starting at the pin and hitting the left-hand side hard. There were small shifts and pressure changes but overall, a one-way track to the left was the game. Ekaterina was just gambling that it would continue to pay and it did. We sailed two long three-lap races and finished within boat lengths, sandwiched in second place between Ekaterina in first and the other Russian boat sailed by Anna Basalkina in third.
